WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
We exist to learn Christ
and love people.
Rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, The Fount Church welcomes you to believe, belong, and become.
What does it mean to ‘Learn Christ’?
The phrase comes from Ephesians 4:20 and means being and living as Christ’s disciples. To learn Christ begins with believing the good news he brings, belonging to the community of faith he forms, and becoming like him in life and death. To learn Christ is to know and follow him in a community relationally and to be transformed by his Spirit to live on mission for God.
Believe
Our core identity is formed by our beliefs about ourselves, the world, and what is true, good, or lastingly beautiful. We believe we have no lasting identity until we receive the good news that in Christ, God shared our humanity with its joys and sorrows and triumphed over sin, Satan, and shame so that we may share in his life and fellowship by his Spirit. To believe the gospel is to repent, forsake our former ways, and learn Christ as revealed through his prayerfully preached, studied, and lived word. Read more about what we believe here.
Belong
Believers must belong to a community that embodies the story of God’s redeeming love in Christ. The Bible disapproves of those who ‘believe in their heart’ but walk alone. Only in a community can we ‘love one another’ (John 13:34-35, Rom 12:10), ‘honor one another’ (Rom 12:10), ‘greet one another’ (1 Cor 16:20, 1 Pet 5:14), ‘show hospitality to one another’ (1 Pet 4:9), ‘bear with one another’ (Eph 4:2-3, Col 3:13) or ‘forgive one another’ (Eph 4:32; Col 3:13). To believe is to belong to God’s gospel-shaped family that administers sacraments and demonstrates the love of Christ in the Spirit.
Become
Believers who belong to a gospel-shaped community become like Jesus. To learn Christ is “to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Eph 4:24-25). To believe and belong is to become disciples characterized by an inward transformation revealed in a life centered on the gospel. And to become like Christ is to embody, in the Spirit, the hope and light of the gospel to a lost and dark world.
